Caddy’s

How Caddy’s made compliance a property of its product data

Overview

Caddy’s is part of the DMO group and one of Italy’s better known retail brands in beauty, personal care and household goods, with hundreds of stores and an online catalog growing fast behind them.

It came to us with a problem that is easy to state and hard to hold: every product page, online and in store, has to carry information that is accurate, complete and compliant with Italian consumer protection rules.

The challenge

Attributes are what a product is made of, in data terms. A retailer tracks stock by code; a customer searches in their own words, for a shampoo that suits sensitive skin or a cream without a particular ingredient. Size, material, use and the regulated details are what connect the two.

At the scale of thousands of pages, keeping that set complete by hand is not a quality problem, it is an exposure. Compliance details are the ones a person is most likely to skip and a regulator most likely to check.

How we solved it

The programme centred on automatic attribute enrichment with the rules built into it: the agents populate the attribute set and validate it against the compliance requirements in the same pass, so a record either meets the standard or gets flagged before it is published.

Nothing in the existing process had to be dismantled for it. The check sits where the data is created, which is the only place it holds as the catalog grows.

What changed

Attribute quality improved across thousands of SKUs, and compliance stopped being a periodic review and became a property of the data. The ecommerce team spends its time on the customer experience rather than on repetitive data entry.
